PC has promise. 1st we know this was an actual race that took place.Recently someone posted a plaque or non portable award from the event. Have you tried a blacklight on it to see if it glows? It looks like it has remains of old animal based glue residue so it may be a good sign. A very eye pleasing design for sure! Best, Richard

      Early SS Motor Race

It was a mass produced post card, so it could, very well, be real.

It has the hallmarks of a Waffen SS poster I own. There is a like postcard of this poster, which is somewhat similar to yours, in terms of characters/graphics. The poster I own has been met with skepticism. One dealer, who has someone developing an SS poster book believed it to be genuine, while others have not. There is a spelling mistake in the poster and debateable if the same mistake is on the postcard or if it is a font issue.

          Who was the dealer?

If it's the same "group" who contacted me about a poster book, they are certainly a disorganized bunch........

I still don't like that poster - but I have been wrong - and right - before.

          Postcard looks okay to me.

            Tony,

It was Derek Gloster and he ran it through Hugh Page Taylor, who I believe is the one authoring the poster book. According to Taylor, he believed that postcard (similar to the poster) was also incorrectly spelled (with an "M" not "N", which when looking at the font is difficult to tell). In any event, I remain skeptical myself, until I see a war-time image. The thing is, if it is a fake/fantasy piece, than I have never seen another one (unlike many of the other commonly seen fantasy pieces).

I always defer to you, my friend, I would put you at the top of experts on the WAF on these things.

            Very best,
            Scott

Well I guess there are two poster books coming out then.

Hugh Page Taylor - I know he worked with Andrew Mollo on some uniform books. Not sure what his background in posters is - any idea?

Hopefully he's not an "instant expert" like Gottlieb.....

There's always a chance your poster is okay. I've never seen another either but that can be both good and bad.

I think there are not many of some fakes around as they were done as one offs or very small print runs.

Remember this one? These fakes seem quite rare.....

(Incidentally it looks like Max's photos in the poster thread have disappeared thanks to imageshack)

Thanks for the vote but I can't say I'm close to being an expert yet as I'm still learning too.

No clue on Taylor, I do know he has co-authored a more successful uniform book.

The only positive, I find for my poster, is that it is a recruitment poster and there was a recruiting effort for a Wallonie motorized brigade (depicted in the poster), towards October 1943. To this end, 'if' real, it was likely only a very limited poster-run for recruitment for that specific purpose. An interesting write-up here regarding the creation of the Wallonie motorized brigade.

Tony - Question for you. Has the postcard been dubbed genuine? This may help for the poster. Do you know of any recruitment postcards, that weren't also the design originating from a poster?
