My Opa...WWII Soldier with Trained German Bear
Since we went SS Totenkopf & Pets lets put a picture of my long time collecting mentor John Ross up here. My Opa and his trained bear in the service while in Germany in the town of Neuotting while dating my Grandmother his German Warbride.

I am saddened by the first picture of the trained bear and I am more troubled by the destruction of the bear in the second photo……but that is my opinion and I am entitled to it as you are entitled to yours.

Very Sorry
Hello Vilja,
I apologize if you are offended. Meant no disrespect to any animals. I am an avid sportsmen and part native american. We eat all the deer and bear we harvest each year. I don't eat beef, chicken or pork. To me that is destruction and makes me sad animals are raised only for slaughter. This animal I respect because it fed my family for a year. My family has sausage recipes from Germany that my family makes together each year so it is a natural thing for us. The fact I hunt with a primitive, highly effective and natural method of archery is respected in my family. I respect your opinion as you say you are entitled. I hope you might understand me better now. I guess it is my opinion what is worse posting a photo of SS Totenkopf who massacred the Jewish race or a couple bear pictures. Again...Very sorry. I will stick to Militaria only and keep my family and heritage out of the Forum. With 3 generation of Marine's in our family discretion is not always used. I will do better next time.
Respectfully,Last edited by kross; 10-02-2014, 02:40 PM.

I'm just surprised, that you guys are surprised, that people actually hunt to kill game not only for the love of the hunt, but more so to feed their families. It's a way of life in most states. And something not soon to change. I grew up in the woods of the deep south, legally harvesting whatever happened to be in season to help stock the freezer for meals, that would last throughout the year.. so relax!
but to each his own I suppose.
Great pictures guys.. I really enjoyed the first post..

Hunting
I wouldn't be so hard on the guy - I have to admit that I am very saddened by such photos, but I would never condemn those who hunt for food. That's a personal decision. My grandfather was the only person in my life who had any time for me, and every year he hunted deer for the freezer. When I was little, me and my dumb friends shot birds for the hell of it, and it haunts me forever. But if I saw a photo of a pile of dead VC, I would pop open a can of beer, count 'em, and call it a good day. Decisions.........choices............regrets...... ...... we're all learning and hopefully progressing.

Well the photo doesn't worry me. I've been hunting - mostly nasty feral animals - most of my life.
I do however find it very strange that all of us here collect war memorabilia and you're disturbed by the photo of a dead bear?
Go and search for "dead bodies in the Ganges" to see stuff much worse than that photo.
Maybe I'm just desensitized to it by now.....

everything they get, ie i'm far more disturbed by a picture of a dead animal than a dead human.
But that's getting of topic the picture of the squirrel is damn funny.
