I think they are the ugliest things of the third reich, but because it so rare, I love them in one way. Great to see some of those
I would be really proud being the owner of this piece (and cap )
And, how can you tell the difference between originals and the post war examples? I remember in the HIAG magazine from the 1950s to the 70s there were advertisements for replacement Julleuchters. The photos looked the same as the originals, and they were also SS marked. I've never bought a Leuchter because I don't know what the differences are.
I know the newest fakes are 'bulgey', but how can you tell the difference between the older copies and the originals?

Originals are heavy, with thick sides. Often (but not always) they have six impressed dots in two rows half way up one side only. These things were made in many thousands, and finished by hand, so there are slight variations, but they came from standard moulds so the differences are not that great. The SS mark on the base was always deeply impressed. Beware the ones in a dark chocolate brown colour with thin flimsy sides and poorly applied mark.
Thanks Robin,
I appreciate the help! Let's see if I can find a good one!
