    Deaths Head Ring

This was with a small box of insignias I got from a friend who bought it in about 1965. He doesn't recall where he got it. Everything he had was right on and original. Appears to be silver and is stamped "835" on the inside band. Photos are blueish from the flash. Looks die struck and the detail is very fine. What have I got here?

Hi Nutmeg, you have a private purchase deathshead ring. Much favoured by SS and Heer Panzer troops. There are many different patterns and quailities to these rings. Hopefully Gaspare will see this thread as he is very much into these. If not drop him a line.

      Cheers, Ade.

Just out of curiosity...I'm looking to purchase one of these is authentic in the future, and would like to know a going price? Would hope they're not as much as Honour rings.

Like everything else this ring style has been reproduced. But from the photos this looks like a good one....Congrats. , G.

Thanks, for the information guys. I'm sure it's real as it's been in this collection since the 60s and the collector bought mostly from Vets. I only have a few bucks in it.

I like this pattern a lot. The skull actually looks a little scary, unlike some of them.

You can still pick these up fairly cheaply. I have one identical to that posted which I bought at an English fair 2 years ago for £30. From big dealers, they usually sell at $100-$150.

Interestingly, there's one on ebay just now.....like the one posted.....where the seller wants over $2000! The world's mad.

                  Hi All

I had a broken one set into the cover of an ss photograph album. Were they not canteen (naffi) items?

Hi Guy, that is my understanding too. I have seen period adverts for them in newspapers & magazines posted on the 'net.

                    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Robin, I didn't know that one had been re-listed. Do you think that's a good one? His provenance is proof of nothing, really.
