I believe I've seen these VA marks on leather products before......The 401/38 is the hersteller (maker I.D.401) code/# and the 38 is to denote year of manufacture (1938)....I believe the verdict is still out on their authenticity(?) but is leaning towards being legit. Bodes

Has not this back pack been discussed here or on another forum recently? it is quite acceptable to find a VA stamp instead of a RZM stamp, VA is short for SS Verwaltungsamt (VASS)

try looking for traces of old stitch holes on the inside flap, as the majority of these packs also had a label as well

Gary, Thank You....I'm a helmet and firearms person....VA marked items are not my specialty but knew I'd seen leather items marked as such...Bodes

Hi all,

Thanks for replies. I found this bagpack in west of France. Garry, you're right. I can see the trace of a label and stich holes. Label was retired, i think.
