The quality of the obverse is outstanding! very fine.

Just want to point out that this period piece has too much extra wool material on the obverse. It is undoubtedly a good one but the variation of manufacture technique from what is accepted as the "normal" is clear and a good example that these differences do exist.

That is an interesting tab. It appears to have had the runics applied after the tab was assembled. Perhap it was an SD tab that was turned into a runic?

Hi Dave interesting comment, just think they had to put the templet on top of the cloth and sew thru the buckram and the black support cloth on the back with bullion thread.

Hi Dave, yes and I just find that simply amazing, all that work. I've seen that before in someone's collection, I'm not 100% sure but I think that it was on a SS1 tab. Sonny
