I would expect to see crimped in prongs.

This eagle is indeed a fake made from the fake 360/380 eagle pattern, (a fake of a fake, but with updated markings). The prong attachment method is indeed wrong as well, however, not all originals had crimped prongs. Bob,
you may remember that you actually own one that has soldered prongs that was vet acquired by you, if I am not mistaken. Please confirm if I am wrong.
I can't remember seeing another one like this, so maybe it was just a period repair? Anyway, most of these will have crimped in prongs and they can be either circular crimps, or the flat tabs, depending on the time of manufacture).

          Hope this helps!

Some Wagners also had the pins forced into little "domes" on the back. Sometimes 2 and sometimes 3. It was really a pi$$ poor method and they are almost always broken when found.

I remember when I handled my first TR headgear back in the early 70's, that my impression was how cheaply and poorly the Germans attached their cap badges. Why they didn't utilize a threaded stud through a grommet like US caps of the same period, I've never understood. Far more durable and uniform in appearance.
