Is someone able to tell me how many patterns are different for the ss honor ring ?
And could you please show pictures with the different patterns !
And what are the best repro ?

Yes but There are a lot of good but also copy etc ...
I would like to see the differents patterns on the same post :-) it s easyer

Several patterns are noted, there is the early pattern of 1933-1939 and the later pattern of 1940 to 1945. In between was a transitional ring and they can be possibly found in the later pattern with an earlier date to account for, loss, damage, or common wear. The difference between the early and the late pattern can be easily distinguished through the shape of the skull. Do a search on honor rings and compare the skulls on the early and later dated rings and you will be able to tell the difference. As far as the best repro rings those would be the ones made by Berthold Peichl in the 60s 70s. He was a student of the Gahr company and made some very high quality early copies back then. Hope this helps.

Early 30s rings can be easy recognize from 1940s for the skull design, but the design of the ring is the same for 30s and 40s rings?

As for transitional rings, what they have different from early and later rings?

Do exist many types of transitional rings or just one type?

Transitional rings are similar to later rings but with an earlier date. Not too many of this type ring exist.

Don Boyle's book is the bible which shows the different patterns made throughout the years; Craig's book is another reference but some information is controversial.
Book books are worth buying for reading pleasure, but not all the information may be correct! You judge!

Both books are required reading, since these are the only reference books ever published in English that goes into detail. Patzwall wrote a book on the Honor Ring, but it is in German.

As to the choice between Boyle's book and Gottlieb's book, as much as have huge personal issues with Craig, his book is the better reference. Boyle's book is more of a picture book, and does not go into the far greater details that Gottlieb goes into.

The die flaws in the 1940's ring, are shown in Gottlieb's book, which make original identifcation easy. Boyle does not.

Craig's book is trash - shows the same photos like 4 times - repeats the same wrong crap over and over again - Boyle's revered book is old and needs a refresh - but Craig's book was not the follow up that we all deserved - Craig's book was completed in a hurry - with money the goal - and it shows - go back to school Craig gottlieb and learn basic writing skills
