Brilliant photos. I was a musician in the Grenadier Guards for 23 years and had a few close shaves in almost being posted twice to a war zone (the Gulf) as medics. Absolutely nothing to what these chaps would have seen once their instruments had been packed away on mobilisation.
I understand that the SS musicians would have served as either medics or HQ staff - but still fully trained as front line soldiers?
Thanks for showing us the photos. Would you know of any photos of the SS Deutschland and SS Der Fuhrer bands as I have the TK ring of Hauptsturmfuher Adolf Laubmann who was at some time Musik Zug (director of music) to both of these bands. He was badly wounded near Belgorod on the 6th July 1943 serving with Das Reich (which proved the fact that the SS bands didn't have an easy time!).
