Old Fake Maybe ?

The reason being I have never seen one like it before

If i am not mistaken i believe it's a rare variant of an original. The buckram certainly appears to be genuine as well. The moth damage is a shame...but since its on the back, not too big of a deal.

The tab is a type of felt / badge cloth and the runes are a white-ish colour

As you have a different type of backing but indeed an interesting piece too
I like the quality about your one ... Is there a shot of the back we could see ... ?

I have one of these tabs that I purchased as an original from a Forum member long while back David. However, in recent discussions that I have observed, most people believe these to be fake. I like the construction and materials used. That said, I'd like to see a definitive answer other then "IMO it's fake."

Personally with only the pics to see I really like both...not often seen but I believe these are both a ok...Richard

Although badly moth eaten it is possible to see just how much of the reverse would have been covered by the tab material and this would be enough to put me off. That and anything that has the potential to be labelled a "rare variant".

John - could you post a picture of the reverse of your tab?

As someone who bought his share of fakes I don't recall seeing these around before. Not sure I would accept them as original either though
