Willi, am I missing something here? if they're very, very rare, how come one guy alone has several of them? I'm not trying to pick a fight here, just trying to get my head round that statement.

Here's a question that's been puzzling me...I've got a Heer Panzer crusher cap, I know it's rare cap but I don't think anyone would consider it being in the same league/price as an ss camo. But, if you wanted to buy one, you'd have a hell of a job to find one. Not so with a camo cap, they're everywhere at the moment or so it seems..??

        Ben,

IMO they have been there all the time (mostly fakes and some very few good ones). It may be possible that one camo collector owns some caps and helmet covers, smocks etc.. Though the average collector usualy will not reach that level. Please note that camo collectors are specialist in camo and usualy nothing else. That means one camo collector might have some covers or caps while an ss collector has "only one" or not even one. They have rare cufftitles or whatever...So it could be that one person owns a couple of caps. There are some good ones around and if you have plenty of money you will be able to buy a high number of these rare authentic ones...

        Just my thoughts...

        Cheers

No problem Ben. The guy was buying camo back in the 60's when it wasn't popular. He bought entire collections of camo uniforms...including FJ smocks. Many of us who now own FJ step-in smocks have found that they came from this guy at some point. He also has 4 original SS camo FJ smocks, has the rarest of SS pullover smocks, etc...even had 3 of the camo SS face veils in his room. He sets up at each Max and SOS, and contributed heavily to Mike Beaver's SS camo book. He is truly a legend amoung advanced collectors, and I learn volumes from him each time I hang with him. His collection is truly amazing.... one piece SS camo coveralls, SS Panzer wrap and trousers in oakleaf camo. Now that he getting up there in age he has been selling off his stuff....it is all just so very expensive. I was looking at two of the SS camo caps.......both very small and in patterns I do not recall.

I realy wonder, why this caps are not going on a dealer homepage for 3 or 4k´s ? From my expierience the realy rar stuff is not so much over the puplic market but mostly from collector friend to collector friend, but over ebay? I don´t know.

              What people don't know...

Peter started out several years ago selling on Ebay, original and reproduction items. Then as he started networking and sourcing more original material became available. A few items for sale, went to "hundreds" for sale, so began his website (http://www.ww-2militaria.com). If anyone here has listed on Ebay, I am sure you would understand how tough and time consuming it is to list one item, can you imagine 10,20,30...?

As far as a dealer selling items they are not sure of the authenticity if on auction...what better way to sell an item (starting a $1.00) that my or may not be authentic. After all it is an auction, some of us have gotten great deals from auction...other not. And it is a fair way to dispose of inventory that you may be unsure of, and recoup some working capital. IMHO.

Hello Giel I also must agree this once with HERR VERBRUGGEN

Imo the skulls are 100% original the yelllow is a nice unmessed one
Well on the green side of the cap ,we see a skull that is (was) an original one
(most of the time Yellow ) and have been post war dyed green

The colour is way of from original ones

Why so many? Well I had two in my collection for a longer period and could of course be tempted to part with one of them if the market continues to increase. This is NOT a sales advert thought, but I guess this is applicable to many of the collectors who have been active for 30+ years.

I did notice some particular points on the W-SS camo caps we used to see in the "old" days and not so often on the ones being offered today. The back of the upper reverse part of the cap is forming a sharp edge (call it eggshape) and the vertical part of the reverse is forming a sharp (head shaped) angle as well like original M43 caps. On most modern caps the shape appears to be wrong.

Here are the (only) two I managed to find over the years

and then there is always the chance to ask the seller a question about an item. I ask Peter one question about an item on Ebay and I got his honest answer. And over all I got never a problem with him and I was always happy with my items I bought from him.
