Why so many SS camo caps?

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of camo caps for sale at the moment? There's one on the e-stand right now, this one on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true
and I believe another sold on Ebay about a week ago...

I thought these things were rare!

There's something strange going on there...the seller appears to be Peter V Lucaks,an extremely respected dealer ......
Plane tree camouflage pattern (actually blurred edge)
looks like an original but you have to judge (Not something I can imagine Peter saying !)

    Cheers,Ian.

They are very, very rare...and very, very expensive. I looked at several in a hotel room at the Max, so I got a quick lesson on them. They were owned by a very respected SS camo collector, whose items are well published.

I looked at the ebay hat..calling a SS camo cap a "German WWII elite forces camo field cap" is odd huh?

I look at the one on e-stand the other day. Does anyone like it? I haven't read any comments on it.

IMHO it looks pretty obvious, nobodies copying peters name and company info for any evil purpose or agenda...i think without a doubt here that this is peter selling a cap starting at 1 dollar that he states openly might not be origional but its up to you because he does not know it is for sure real himself which is honest which you have to give him. I have no problems if a respected dealer like peter says hes unsure 100% but still does not try and hoodwink anyone, hes stated it might not be and starts at 1 dollar....what else do people want?

How do i know this?...because i just asked him!

          Thats just my opinion....

I agree with Pete. I've seen Gerard of Relic Hunter do the same type of auctions on Ebay. They are open and upfront about the item potentially not being original and then leaving it up to the buyer. So, in my opinion, nothing fishy.

And, if he had called it a "SS camo cap" in the description, rather than "elite forces camo field cap", the auction would have been shut down in a New York minute by the ebay police. Nothing fishy about the title. Just one of the means to get an auction through the ebay gauntlet.

I wasn't aware that it was Peter's cap and I wasn't saying it was good or bad....I just find it a bit odd that sooooo many are coming out of the woodwork at the moment.

Actually, I think Peter's is the best of the bunch I've seen so far but I'm no camo expert..

I think that of all SS camo pieces, the M43 cap is most problematic - the high end fakes use original cloth, period thread and are very close in design. I think it is now impossible to make an assessment of these caps without a hands on inspection - and even then it may well come down to a "gut" call.

I agree, there is nothing here that indicates to me this cap is being sold as an original, These caps are tough at the best of times probably worse than original SS helmets. I also echo Mike C's comments,

                    Hi,

                    Good point Pete!

I also think this is the case.... Most sellers also have an Ebay account. They don't use that account to sell of fake stuff but to auction stuff that's mostly not in a terrific shape or things they might not be 100% sure... (So items in these cases are sold as is...) I don't see anything bad in this way of working... do you guys?? If Peter VL isn't 100% sure of that camo cap it is quite honest in fact he sells it on Eban starting at $1 and stating "the bidder to judge" instead of putting it on his site, priced at 3000 euro and claiming it's original... If he would put it on his site at 3000 euro what would the reactions of some of the forum's 'whistleblowers' be then??? So,... IMHO What's the problem????

                    Kind regards,
                    Gerd V

I see no problem now it's been explained, just never seen PvL selling through Fleabay. The cap is blurred edge not plane tree though isn't it ?

Unfourtunatly I can't view the ebay auction...But the pics that I have gotten directly from Peter show a Oak B cap. Not blurred edge nor platan etc.. I can't see anything that tells me it is bad, though this is tough with ss camo caps anyway. So far I like it...but I need to agree with Peter when he says that one can't say for sure. Good fakes are hard to detect as the construction of these caps is pretty simple...

Why cant you view the auction fritz? If it is because you are blocked, just go to your explorer browser , then to internet options, languages, then remove german.
