army eagle on SS uniform in specialist school

    Gentlemen,
I read a book yesterday, I cant really remember the title, i think it was 'Waffen SS handbook' or something.

There was this pic of an SS officer during the specialists course, gunnery etc, and the course was conducted in the army's schools, and the SS officer was using an army tunic but with SS collar tabs, he had a wehrmach eagle on the right breast pocket. By the way, the SS officer was sitting next to an army officer, leutnant, I think, and both of them were wearing dress uniform with sabres.

But I have never seen any of this uniform around, is it common and is it colllectable?

    Thanks

Hi Rasputin, I think the photo you refer to is the one in the book "A Collectors guide to: The Waffen SS" by Robin Lumsden. The photo is on Page 129 of the book and shows an officer of the SS-VT Medical Battalion. He wears the Heer breast eagle and SS sleeve eagle. This combination of insignia on this uniform would be incredibly rare and, if original, very collectable and also very expensive.

    Cheers, Ade.

          Hi Gary,

Yes! Thats the very pic I am talking abt! , i cant remember the name of the book, Ade, silly me, I just went to same bookshop again today earlier actually.

I think the caption of the pic reads something like, SS officer assigned to army school, hence wearing the army eagle.

Has anyone seen or own such a tunic before?

          Thanx

            John,
It is much clearer in the original photo the eagle is hand embriodered on a cloth backing .
            cheers,
            Gary

                  Josh,
It was only worn while instruction and training when the individuals finished this it would be removed so only a temporary thing
                  cheers,
                  Gary

                    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the reply, that explains the extreme rarity of the uniform, and I guess no Waffen SS officer would be willing to have an army eagle on his tunic for long, vice versa.

                    Have a good day
                    Josh
