    SS Tropical Uniform

    Hi,

This uniform belongs to another collector. He showed it to me about 2 weeks ago.

I never saw an uniform like that before. Looks like the 2nd pattern model but without lower pockets and without real upper pockets outside??

A sleeve eagle was removed and also the 2 collar Tabs (the removed collar Tabs are not good shown on the Picture) but when i had it in Hand the sign of the collar Tabs where clearly visible.

    The stamp:
I have only the Beaver book to compare but there is no Close up of an original stamp so maybe you can Show one.

Is this a modified jacket or a post war reproduction? Maybe anyone knows.

There is a thread regarding these w/o pockets if it can be found. If I recall has to do with POW's?

I have the same jacket, stripped like this, I dont see any problem with them. I know these jackets are heavily reproduced, but these I believe are fine.

            Hi Scott,

Do you know why the pockets are removed? Maybe because of the POW camp as -Ray- wrote before?

Is your jacket also without pockets?

              Hi there!

Severla years ago, among a old cloth collect popping out several SS trops… Some complete with its eagle, some other with chevron, some stripped and other without pocket, as your. I remember that somebody talks about POW, or re-issue for some jail.

Only rumors.. but that's true that lots of un-pocked tunic still coming out in this way from every places!

              Best,

Yes, mine is just like yours, same details as to pockets missing, I have a second one that is unissued mint, and quite nice. I don't have any problems as I said with your jacket, in fact, there is an interesting small tailoring detail on your stripped jacket which is on my unissued ss trop, as well as my SS dot M44 and dot panzer jackets. Why the pockets were removed, have no idea, it looks and can be worn more like a shirt without all the pockets, but as to pow camps and such, anyones guess really.

Mine (rebadged well used original) has only the bottom pockets removed...That was sometimes done so these can be worn as shirts supposedly...
(same thing occurred with HBT drillichs on occasion during the summer months...)

The removal of the bottom pockets was sometimes done by artillery men, Nebel, mortar crews etc...(in the summer months) who had to bend over handling shells
and did not want the skirts of the tunics dangling in the way... so these were modified by them to be worn as shirts tucked inside their keilhoBen pants.

The removal of the top pockets is odd as this is the spot where they would keep their soldbuchs at all time...(mandatory!) so strange for a wartime mod!
Maybe a post war conversion to make these look less military?

                    Hi Nick,

Thank you for reply, but i don't think the upper pockets are post war modified because why would somebody remove this pockets to make the jacket look less Military but still leave the thread of the removed eagle inside the sleeve?

True, it was a general statement, not applicable with yours...since the sleeve ghost is clearly visible...or its a post war applied eagle and removed. Appears to be hand sewn...
