Dutch volunteer shields

Dear all,

In one of his latest threads our Belgian friend LucdB showed us a superb Dutch volunteer shield. (Luc also showed me this shield 'live' at last Ciney show.)

I told him that I have two similar - albeit slightly different - shields in my collection. Both are clearly used and have traces of having been on uniforms.

I personally always thought that this type of shield was predominantly worn by Dutch volunteers in the Kriegsmarine (and not SS). Does any of you have additional information or other ideas?

That is the 1st pattern German made SS shield as worn by Frw. Legion Niederlande, a very nice example and very rare compared to the common 2nd pattern.

There are photo's of Dutch SS men from Frw. L N wearing it.
