So, E.bay existed in 1944 in Germany and was supplying the SS??? So that is why so many people call them nazis!

Munster, That's great that he keeps busy....Unfortunately my father retired young because of problem w/his nerves,(teletype operator during the Viet Nam war) and did NOT keep busy....He just passed last year at age 65(50+ year smoker).....Does your father-in-law talk much about the war? Would be interesting to hear some of his experiences..... Bodes

              Funny Theo. Very funny.

How old is your wifes Opa? He must be in his early 70's?

Nice photo. Remember to thank your father in law for sharing all this. Its so important to get facts from the real source. In a few years from now , our WW2 veterans will all be gone. It must have been horrible for him to see all that destruction in the town of Dresden.

                Cheers.

I hardly come in here much but remembered I started this thread. Sad update on the old man . He just had his last rites due to cancer and should be gone any day now. Talked to him about 2 weeks ago in the hospital but now hes on so much morphine hes not understandable. Glad you guys enjoyed the photo back then and it was great to get all the stories first hand from him.

                      Cheers Guys

I just now saw this thread. Sorry to hear your father in law has taken a turn for the worse. Sounded like he would have had some good stories to tell from his service days.

Thought you guys might find it interesting, I didnt go to the funeral but a Kameradschaft showed up he was involved in. They had a black EK flag with gold strands and did a little march in the church. They played an old song on the trumpet and when the coffin was in the ground one came forward and said some words and addressed him as Kamerad. He saluted and then formally marched away. I wish I could have been there for that. Last I have heard from the family 90% of his memoirs is on the war.

                                My condolences and respect!

Not everyone has gone through what he did.
