    SS daggers.....need your knowledge

Hello guys, I was wondering was the use/wear of ss daggers common amongst waffen ss soldiers on leave etc during the war? Any one Who could share a few pictures if possible?

The reason I ask is, would a display with a m40 NCO Nordland tunic go along with a ss dagger?

    Regards
    Lars

Pictured on the right is an off-duty W-SS officer wearing the SS-M36 service dagger. Note that he is wearing long trousers, and that the dagger is suspended from under his tunic; all as per dress regulations.

In 1942 Himmler approved the wearing of the M36 Chain dagger, with the 42 cm portapee, for members of the Waffen SS. I've not seen a 33 in wear by any Waffen members that I can recall. You also want to remember that the M33 SS dagger was for Allgemeine officers, NCO's and EM's . They all wore the same dagger until almost 1937

I know some of the Danish waffens ss veterans had a ss dagger, as some daggers has been found and bought directly from them. Maybe they brought them home as souvenirers?

Lars, I honestly believe that Waffen NCOS and EM's very possibly carried 33 daggers. I once had a 33 with the veterans statement of his unit opening up on a German Half Track in which all of the soldiers were killed. In the remains of the armored vehicle the vet scored his SS dagger war trophy.

Also keep in mind that as the war progressed the wearing of dress edge weapons was prohibited and pistols were to be carried instead.

Interesting. if this is true, would they have dared to put portapees on them I wonder?

                      Hello.

I've seen wartime footage of a W-SS soldier carrying an SS dagger while in battle conditions. I have no link.

The M-33 dagger was presented to A-SS men but obviously many of these transferred accross if of the right age.
Surely some members of the SS-TV and SS-VT would have owned M-33 daggers.

Regulations would be fairly strict on this matter I would have thought.

Have you asked in the dagger sction? There may be more members with information.

                      Regards,
                      Chris.
