    SS Cap Eagle

I would like opinions on this cap eagle -- front first. I will post the reverse later. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but it's just the typical "SS 360" style reproduction.

    Best, Chris

Thanks, that's what I thought. It's a 373/43. This number is usually associated with fakes only. But, I found a thread somewhere that said there were originals with this #. So, I didn't want to bias opinions based on the #.

I know some like to disagree, but I personally don't believe that there were any originals with those codes.
There were however, original "RZM 394/35" marked eagles.

How can you ID this as a fake just from the front? I don't know what to look for.

            Hi,

The biggest differences are the feathers, the head and beak of the eagle, and the oak leaves. They are all just shaped different from the originals,
(although all of the different makers of the originals are different
            from each other as well).
A book I have, states that these came from Austria in the 80's.
The first generation of these fakes were marked "SS 360/XX"
and look much better than this one. They were die struck but had incorrect pin attachment crimps.
This one appears to be a copy of a copy. This is where they started changing the markings and pin attachments around so that people wouldn't get too suspicious by so many of them having the same markings.
Now, you see many different codes and variations of the back sides.
475, 373, and the list of markings goes on and on and on, but they don't look as good as the first generation of the "SS 360/year"
fakes that were made of aluminum.

            Hope this helps! Chris
