Yes- I know there were some made with no ventholes, this cap has them so the relevance of that comment eludes me unless its point was just to be snarky.

It's not my intention to be snarky, I am just growing tired of posts like this (post 2).
You claimed that "all caps you've seen had metal grommets" . Fine, it all depends on what you have seen I suppose. - And I am not being cynical here!
In case you don't believe me, go throuh period photos or consult the beaver book. Machine sewn vent holes aren't a faker's invention, they did exist and not just in isolated cases.
