I avoid 99% of the camo cloth SS items that I am offered for this reason, most are fakes...helmet covers especially, I liked some of what I saw on this cap...the cloth does appear correct but like someone already pouinted out-its not hard to sew original cloth and make a pretty convincing cap.

It's a very convincing piece, but post #8 clinches it for me. Double needle stitching should be very evenly spaced IMO and this is not. Look above the grommets. I would think a cap like this would be VERY easy for an experienced wartime schneider to throw together and there would be no stresses like that involved. Caveat Emptor!

I´m realy surprised from opinios. Yes, it is easy to produce those caps, but than is question why collect militaria? All is now easy to produce.... I know from where is this cap and who found it. On that place was found about 10 pieces. Air vents are abolutely correct, I have another with machine sewn holes.

Please, can someone show me pics of original cap from collection, not from pics from internet?

              Regards Radek

And here is one reason why the cap is not new and so. Look at thread how is bleached around and how is still grey between shield and side. It is hard to make picture of it, in hand inspection is more proof.

                Regards Radek

Grommets are an appropriate version for this type of cap because they were required to be smooth on both sides to achieve the reversible function.

Rough stitching is a good sign because of pressured concentration camp construction.

It has certainly got the potential to be the "real-deal"
