These early skulls vary considerably, so sometimes they're difficult to authenticate. I don't think they ever had pins like that - I'd expect them to be made of thin, flat brass. WWII -period badges DID sometimes have round pins. I believe that Panzer collar tab skulls have round pins. But not cap badges like this one, IMO.

I would certainly like to see some examples of these if they exist.
I've never, ever seen an early SS skull made of aluminum, and I seriously doubt that they exist. They usually are made of copper or brass material that was then plated. The plating sometimes resembles nickel, and sometimes it resembles tin-plating that is very shiny. Aluminum came later, IMO.

Maybe not as early SS skulls , but as Traditionsabzeichen K.R. 5 , originals of course did exist in Alu .
However , I do not like the example that started this thread either ..
