    Strange SS portrait

Can some one please shed some light on this strange insignia combination on this portrait on the E stand. Never seen anything like it? J

I suspect that is a photo mock-up made by a photographer after the soldier's death in a case where no photograph showing him with his final rank and awards existed.

and look at his field gray shoulder straps (as opposed to SS black)

It almost looks like his head has been transposed on another uniform. Many touch ups were done for death card photos.

              I agree.

Nonetheless, the unusual combination of both the runic and TK collar tab can be seen in this photo as well (here a Dutch W-SS volunteer).

[Spot on Chris! Ive had the same death notice[ in my collection for 25 + years and its a treat everytime I dig it out. Im actually thinking it may be an all mocked up Heer pic. (Though you gotta admit the old " cut & paste" crew leaves ALOT to be desired). Recently a large photo grouping of this soldiers hit the market, sadly I found out about it too late. Im assuming you got the grouping? please pm me with details. Please find below another example of "studio touch up". This is a huge portrait 1. 5 ft x 2.5 ft. If you look closely you'll see he was photographed in a Heer tunic & visor but "abbra caddabra" he is now a NCO in "Germania" enjoy! Richard

PS: I apologize about the watermarks always fiouling up my images but we have the ebay copy frauds out there, next week this picture would be sold by a true blue ukranian collector.
