    Officer Tab opinion

    Hello,
I am almost clueless when it comes to SS insignia. I saw this officer's tab in a shop and would like to get your opinions on it. These are the only photos I have. Also, if original, could someone tell me a good value. I searched the net and between dealers wide range and the downturn in prices in the current economy I have no clue what they're going for.
    Thank you,
    Dale

Thanks, will probably make an offer on it and see how it goes.

Did you find this in Texas?

If so, which I'm nearly positive it is, I'd pass as Ade suggested a year back. His opinion is one I trust. Besides, it is well over-priced and the owner is unwilling to lower his price; he is a very stubborn man. Better to wait for a example that is undoubtably authentic in my opinion for the price he's asking.

P.S I've had it in hand several times now, and although it is very convincing, there were some things I didn't like about it. For the asking price, I feel you could do better. That is if he is still asking what he was back then.

I did see it in Texas, though it wasn't in the hands of a dealer. It apparently had been sold as part of a collection to a shop. It still had an original price tag on it which I thought was rather high. I've compared it to the one in the thread you posted and it looks very similar, though I'm not sure it's the exact same one. I'm probably going to pass on it anyway as SS is not my area and I generally only buy it from vet groupings or when I can get it real cheap.

I would judge this tab as original.

Note the hole in the buckram, the stitching pattern, the knot, bullion, etc. Undoubtably the same tab IMO. And yes, the owner is not a dealer, but a gun-store owner.
If he is still asking 800usd, there is a original in far better condition unsold on estand priced at 600usd, which is a much better deal. I'd bet the estand seller would take 500usd as well seeing how it has been up for quite awhile now; good luck.
Add: The bullion construction was weak, and the back stitching in hand almost appeared dyed, but besides that I like it too. Probably a original, but still overpriced and questionable.
