Opinions on this SS camo cap

    Hello everyone,
I just picked up this cap at a local shop I frequent. The owner had picked it up with a diverse collection of militaria and weapons he had just purchased and did not even know if it was original. It looks like it has some age to it, but I know that does not mean much these days. i would love the help of the more knowledgeable members and get their opinions to find out if it is a repro, and if so why. I have tried to take some detailed photos but the hat is down right grimy, so that may affect the detail of the photos. I look forward to the feedback.

    thanks in advance,
    Vic

What indicates that it is an 80's fake? Is it the pattern or the weave of the material itself?

Yes, that's a repro which includes the material.

Well I took a chance on it. At least it cost me less than a Starbucks coffee.

the pattern! it was used to make panzer coveralls and helmet covers, among other camo items!

it fooled a great deal of collectors back then, and a couple of museums too I've been told!

one thing karaterising this particular fake pattern is the ripled weave on the egdes of the material! it's also mensioned in the book "wss camouflage uniforms & post war derivatives"! can't remember the authors name though!

              cheers
