I found some documents for volksdeutsche, former Soviet Union citizens. This is not military document and SD stamp does not connect with his unit.

Perhaps you're right .... thought this was the pumpkin head ...http://www.gdmmilitaria.com/ 1st item in cloth insignia.I thought the one in the photo was the earlier type.
