    Cap eagle I.D.

    Hi,

I would like to know if this cap eagle is an W.W.2 original. If it is, I guess with its 2 broken pins it is not worth the $300.00 the seller is asking for?

    Regards juno44

A known reproduction from the 1980's - like other fakes from that time , these were produced in sets with a matching skull .
The SS contract number 373/43 was never used on period items , hope this helps ..

      Yes and NO...

I disagree...They made originals and fakes with this same marking, although I believe this one shown is a repro, but if you check the threads , I recall through the years past they showed some 373' 43s that were judged to be original...I think one has to scrutinize these closely to sort them out...just like the ss 380/40 skull I got prior to them ever making a repro from the vets attic myself, even with real provenance there are still so called experts (just think they are) with closed minds who refuse to believe the ss mark was never used on any skulls , but they were, and would also be consistent to be used on the eagles...another issue is they have not cracked the code to tell who all these ss sanctioned makers actually were and cross referenced to makers who also used other markings for heer, and other TR items. This answer cannot be just cut and dried lik that...not if one is seeking the truth. Just wanted to make you aware of that fact..and I care less who disagrees, because I have solid proof .

My thoughts exactly - post had already dropped to lower half of page without any comments .. ?

I once had a very interesting talk with one of the old time dealers that imported the first generation of these fake series , and had everybody fooled at the time . The items were relatively well-made ( compared to the earlier RZM 5/8 monkeyskulls , etc. ) and there was no internet .
Only collectors who had never seen these numbers before - quite brilliantly done . Through internet , these newly made-up numbers are now well-known .

Same dealer introduced the infamous Dutch SS sportsbadge - not a single one ever seen before that date , but suddenly they were everywhere ( with a variety of markings ) .
Some people will always be ready to believe in those too .

I have NO problems with that fact whatsoever , so there will be no need for another multi-page discussion .

The fact however , that the prongs on these sets ( and 475/43 ) have been attached with epoxy glue instead of soldering should at least give some food for thought .
IMHO you don't have to be a " socalled expert " to draw conclusions from that - there are just fewer people left here prepared to give their opinions on these maddening items ..

So are you saying that 373/43's matching skull and eagle are original ..... ?
