I have seen something like this years ago ...... Its in one of the books
But looking at the signature on this one I feel this is now been massed produced
        Very suspect for me ....

            Himmle

This one you have pictured is identical to the one in Wittman's Book "Exploring the Dress Daggers and Swords of the German SS" Case and all and could be the very same one.

I can't comment on the signature, but that is an old Damast letter opener. Being Damast I don't think it would be mass produced and would be valuable on it's own. Question is is it later messed up with a signature or....

I think this is a well known dagger which is somewhat controversial. Perhaps they would have more info on the Dagger forum.

                    Hello All,
I own this letter opener and it is the one pictured in Wittmanns book as well as 2 other reference books.
The pictures posted may appear slightly different than those in the book because they were taken today in natural light and the pictures in the book were taken with artificial lighting 20 plus years ago.
I'm interested in selling this item.
                    Thank you
                    Eddie

That is one cool looking blade. It's too bad you have to/want to sell it. No common SS dagger there!

I saw this exact piece a few years ago at the SOS. A friend was selling it and a potential customer wanted to show it to one of the dagger 'gurus' who said its bogus! When mentioned it was in his friends book the guru said 'well he made a mistake back then'.
The seller was upset but understood back when it was sold to her husband there was some collecting politics involved....
If you like it and believe it good buy it and enjoy it. We all must stop buying pieces as investments!

The economy is bad right now anyway. If I had it I'd keep it. There's a good chance further investigation will prove the naysayers wrong.
