Great item with provenance, sadly lacking with most items

Off hand, the writing is legit in that it was written by an old-timer

Seeing the handwriting brought back memories of my aged grandparent's handwriting.
If you do get this ring, put the handwritten letter in a mylar cover with acid free backing.
It is cooler and more believable (without further investigation) than most write ups I have seen.

I couldn't agree more about the handwriting! When I read the letter the only think that popped in my mind was "Wow, that definitely looks like my grandmother's handwriting!!"

hopefully a good ring. But I've seen many worn HRs. Even one that looked like a smooth band! , ALL had a very smooth inner band... [Do a search here for Robin Lumsdens smooth HR]

Sometimes extream wear, scratchy inner,is to hide something so be careful..

Well worn to be sure I have seen stuff like this well worn by the recipient and the vet. Engraving looks superb though and isn't that well worn. I have a 50/50 thought on it after seeing what can be made in Eastern Europe today.

The engraving is real. It matches known originals, especially the H. Himmler signature. At first impression, it is a puzzle why the outside of the ring is worn down to the knub. One of the worst cases of wear I've ever seen on an HR. It could be questioned why the inside does not match the outside?

A possible reason for the disparity in wear is that the inscription is engraved and below the surface, and will last much longer no matter the wear. The outside is exposed to all the wear, tear and rubbing that would come with everyday use.

It is surprising that a ring granted in 1944, would be so worn in less than a year. In the climate that existed in occupied German after 1945, it is unlikely that anyone would continue to wear the HR. I

In any event, the rings are at least .900 silver or more, and we know how soft silver is. The Urkunde speaks historically of a ring of the "purest silver." If these rings were made in the more sensible .800 silver, I doubt if we would ever see the kind of smeared wear, Honor Rings are capable of producing.

I am 50/50 on this ring. The inner engraving looks OK but somehow the inner surface is quite strange. But maybe I am wrong. I don´t trust those rings mostly not anymore about the "great" fakery work from some individuals.

A well worn ring may have been worn, after the war, by the soldier that brought it back. It was very fashionable, in post war years, to be very proud of your war souvenirw. In my old neighborhood, I often saw a dagger or helmet hanging on a recreation room wall of my neighbors.

                              Great anecdote Bob.
I was quietly thinking some old American vet would wear this ring after '45. I could imagine the stories to tell when a grandkid looked at it or with others while fishing or hunting, or even bowling.
All the while wearing it out.

Not a typical wartime engraving. Just compare the engraving of the "6" with provenanced original ones, it's night-and-day! I'd stay away from this one!
