    Rare picture Dutch SS-man

    Dear all,

We all sometimes doubt what was actually worn and what was issued but never worn.

One of these concerns the (black) oval shield with the word 'Nederland' surrounded by oakleaves. I have only seen once an original piece but this was not for sale.....I think it belonged to one of the more 'obscure' Dutch SS-related services called the 'Werkdienst Nederland', responsible for various on-gard duties in Russia and Poland. As far as I know was there no known picture showing this insignia in wear...until I found the annexed picture.

Of additional interest is the fact that the man seems to wear a regular SS M43 (or '41/'42) jacket with the SS-arm eagle attached! He did not bother to remove this but put his 'Nederland' patch on top of it!

An awesome photo that I wanted to share with you.....and of course when one of you has such a shield....please show it here on the Forum! Thanks in advance!

All reactions are naturally most welcome,

    With best regards,

    COCO

          Alex's question...

          Dear Alex,

Very good question for which I have no answer....I only know that this picture was taken in Klagenfurt in 1943 (written on the back). I think he was not an SS-man but that this unit was handed out brandnew SS-jackets with eagles attached...it might have been too much trouble for them to first remove the eagles..no idea.

          Okay?

          Best regards,

          Coco
