    SS Armband For Review

    Good Evening,

I received the pictured SS armband today that came from United Country-Legacy Auction & Reality in Pennsylvania. I also read the educational article written by Gary Symonds regarding using the black light test to authenticate cloth items.

As can be seen in the photos the white thread used to attach the white disk to the red armband material glows when black light is applied.

I would appreciate any comments regarding this armband's authenticity.

    Thank you for your time.

    Bill

      Hello Peter,

Just a followup: I contacted the auction company, explained the situation and they are going to issue a refund.

The consignee who sent the armband to auction was contacted by the auction company and that person stated that the armband was a late war production and it was normal for the thread to glow.

That's one heck of a lie. A bad one...

          Late war production

Just another prime example of why the blacklight test is a perfectly valid tool in our armoury and also why you should never believe everything that's published .... that's IF it's not been pulped by now ?
