    Rene,

as for my knowledge there has never been a factory mad "dot" cap. There are period photographs showing a pretty large variety regarding those caps. But all of them must be considered "fieldmade". The official guidline is that original factory issued caps were made of patterns that can be found on original smocks too. Some say of Zeltbahnen but this is not correct as, for example, there were no "lateral" pattern Zeltbahns but there were caps showing lateral pattern.

    To Michael 501,
well if the cap was found by you it is probably real ( too much work for this cap to check if the pattern is correct as the pics aren't too good, the cap is soiled and because it's a cap shows very little of the pattern ). If not then it is 99% fake. Never buy something that was fieldmade for a high price...except you like it that much and be aware of the fact that you can never sell that again for much money.

Other told that they don't like the pattern. Without testing it my self I would agree with them as the whole cap looks pretty bad.

    Cheers

    Fritz

      Thanks Fritz,

Your right, these Dot field caps were probably not factory made but field made.
I just can't remember seeing period photos of the dot pattern field cap being worn, but I would like to see some photo images hopefully some members could post them? Also what books would I find pictures of the Dot pattern field cap being worn?

      Cheers

        Hey Rene,
look at page 257 of Michael Beavers' book "camouflage uniforms of the wss" and page 59,60, 61, 172 etc. of Werner Palinckx's book "Camouflage Uniforms of the German Wehrmacht. If you have any books ragarding the normandy campaign search for pics with ss tank crews ( or men like Max Wünsche) you will find a number of fieldmade camo caps made from italian camo patter.

These pictures show that the construction was usualy like that of the "original fieldcap" or just more ore less like M43 caps. You can find every issued pattern among those fieldmade caps...even period patterns from foreign armies (italian etc.).

If there are more question just ask, perhaps I can help.

        Cheers

        Fritz
