Hi, I'm posting this SS officer sleeve eagle for a friend of mine that needs opinions more than my.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

It is either a very early fake or a foreign made original impossible to say. a lot of 60s 70s fakes had swastikas like that and unterlagen.

You have to stop & ask yourself 'Would you wear this eagle on your uniform if you were an SS officer'? Although the overall make-up of the 'eagle' seems okay the swastika is terrible & was embroidered that way. It wasn't damaged & ended-up looking like it does.

I can't honestly say that this insignia was embroidered in wartime or, even pre-war but, it is pretty crummy looking with that buggered-up swastika & I wouldn't wear it on my tunic!

I've seen worse eagles in period pics and on vet bring-back tunics...this one COULD be OK...

              With respect ....

I don't feel these men were fashion conscious it was just an item of insignia that regulations demanded you wear whether your sleeve eagle looked like a eagle or a parrot

1 dimensional in the bullion used?
not the standard unterlagen used either?

Sometimes the responses to these questions are one dimensional you can tell who only read books and who actually has held more than a few in their hands.....this could very well be a foreign made example...it doesn't matter if a "Standard" unterlagen was used these eagles were made all over the Reich....this one was made in Belgium and was used frequently enough to be seen clearly in period photos...Otto Weidinger wore this style.

another on a tunic. notice subtle differences...there was no "standard" outside of Germany...heck not even in Germany.

Thank you very much to everyone for comments.
With respect to respond to Ron, I might agree, not the most beautiful eagle but fortunately I do not have to put any uniform with this eagle to go to the office and the only thing that my friend tries to know is if this eagle is original or not. So I agree with David (Stossgruppe3) I don't think that fashion was their first thought even though I have got to see lots of SS officer portraits with eagles really beautiful ... but also too strange (and not stylistically so wonderful). So...

                      Thank you again.
Some other opinions on this not charming eagle?
