    Himmlers tunic.

Himmlers wartime tunic appears to have olive green / field grey painted buttons as sometimes seen in use by SS and SD.
Can anyone confirm definitively Himmlers choice of button colour?

It depends on which tunic you're referring too -

The field-grey example is during the actual "war-time" with the black and white examples being pre-1939 due to SS uniform regulation. However, as we know, SS command sometimes ignored their own rules - I have seen the white summer-tunics being worn after uniform regulation changes by high-ranking staffers.

With respect to your question - I believe the field-grey coloring was indeed used, as we see in the first photo I posted. I wanted to contrast the button coloring with a pre-1939 uniform to show you the difference.

Last photo - since you mentioned the SD too.

Notice the use of "polished" buttons on Heydrich's jacket versus Himmler's war-time tunic above.

In conclusion - I believe both button coloring was used and Himmler did in fact wear the non-reflective field grey button coloring you inquired about during the 1939-1945 years.

Thank you. I am familiar with many of the pictures but noticed Himmler s often seemed to be painted green...unusual in a way for his position.
As an aside I havent seen him wear the Treffen or Nürnberg tinnies post 39 on his tunic...

I don't think it is unusual - it looks better in my opinion too.

There was no point to wear tinnies later on - look at Himmler's service record when he did wear them - the man really had nothing! Always remember the other Nazi "top-brass" were WWI veterans who were distinguished in combat, Himmler was not.
