Actually, now that I've taken my beer-goggles off and looked at it closely,
I see a Zimmerman front on a Deschler back and the whole thing looks like a cast fake.

This skull is absolutely original. I have one that was a vet bring back.
Close examination will prove that these were made from the same exact dies that made some of the aluminum Deschlers. The interesting thing
is that they modified the front die to contain some of the Zimmermann skull features. I believe that Deschler liked some of those features and wanted to chance their die to look similar to Zimmermann's, but that is just a thought. Either way, they are absolutely real.

Really? I never heard that before. But I remain extremely skeptical. The detail, especially on the teeth is extremely poor. I figured it was just because the first one looked ground-dug, but it's the same on the other two as well. I have a standard zink Deschler and the details are just as fine as on the pre-war skulls. Plus the thickness is uniform throughout unlike theses badges that are thick in some areas and thinner in others, like castings generally are. Also notice that there is a thin horizontal line across the (viewers) upper left crossbone that is evident on original Zimmermans. It is almost imperceptible. Why would Deschler add that? And after 10 years of one very successful design, why would they switch? That makes no sense at all. I find it hard to believe that one of the most prestigious jewelery firms in Germany would put out such a poor product. And are they zink at all? They look like they could be cast lead.

I can assure you that there is no lack of detail to any part of these skulls, other than the typical die wear that occurs. Unfortunately, these are not the best of pictures, and so they do not do the skulls justice. Here is a small picture of one of mine. I will try to post some better ones tomorrow.
They are zinc and they are authentic.

They all seem to have a hair lip..I guess that is typical for this type .
