    An Assmann skull ?

    Hi,
    This looks like an Assmann but I dont have access to the reverse to check if it is.
    Can someone confirm it ?

    It say's 5/8 on the back and it's a fake from the 70's.

      I agree, it is lacking detail and has terrible looking cracking on the skull.

                As said above the 'Pigeon Head' fake eagle .. these 2 came together in the UK in the mid 70's from Quartermaster At The Angel and they were sold for £1 each as fakes. (or £1.50 each but £2 for 2 I forget )

                  So today it would cost around £15 for the set.Thats not so bad as I paid £35

                          They have ZERO value as they are very poor fakes and not even good enough to serve as display fillers in a collection. I would be surprised if a re-enactment group would even approve of them.

                          Your £35 would have been better spent on books I'm afraid.

                              I have no regrets on my purchase as there is no way that I would pay the outrageous prices dealers ask for the genuine article.
                              As for repro values ,there is a U.S site that is selling similar caps for $210,they sold one recently after a year and have now replaced it with another.
                              There will always be a market for fakes in all spheres of collecting.
