Prussian kripo warrant disc

Pieter, there is a story behind the two discs. Only a few months after the so called "Polish fake" discs appeared, my wife carried a portable phone to me out in the yard one hot summer day. There was a man on the phone that I had never heard of. He told me that he collected German items. He lived in a state several hundred miles away from me, but was familiar with some of my writing about Third Reich era German police warrant discs.
He told me that he had received a call from a man he did not know who was wanting to sell two German police warrant discs with numbers only two digits apart. He had driven about 100 miles to meet the man and was at that time in a diner with him. He had stepped outside to make the call to me.
He briefly described the two discs to me. One of them I did not recognize..but the other was the Gøring era Prussian State Kripo disc. The man he had met wanted $250 for BOTH discs. He told me he was afraid to buy them because he had just read one of my articles about the fake Prussian State Kripo discs from Poland.
I asked him if the disc had a BERLIN marking. He replied that it was marked Wuppertal. My heart skipped a couple of beats. I asked him what he was going to do. He told me he was going to pass on them.
I told him to buy the discs and send them to me and I would guarantee a return of his $250, if the Prussian Kripo disc was a fake......and if it were not...then I would send him ten times his money...$2500. He accepted my offer. I had his cell phone number.
I never heard from him again for several days, at which time I called him. He agreed to drive about 500 miles to meet me with the discs, if I would drive the other 500 miles of the distance that seperated us. I agreed to that.
He would never set a time to do it. He began to play me along like a puppet on a string. After many months of this I finally gave up. I could tell he was looking for other offers...although I had guaranteed his skin in the beginning.
Finally I doubled my offer to $5000. After several more months of messing around with me, he finally offered me a sight unseen deal for $10,000 for both discs. I had seen good pictures of them by then...and I swallowed my pride and jumped on the deal. For the first time since my original conversation with him..he finally kept his word and sold me the discs. I have never looked back.
That has been well over 15 years ogo...and I have never seen another original Prussian State Kripo disc. The Elberfeld-Barman disc was a bonus. I later learned that this was a suburb of Wuppertal, and that BOTH discs in all probability had belonged to the same officer...with the "new" Prussian disc authorized by Hermann Gøring replacing his previous round disc.
I guess that if you wait long enough "no good deed goes unrewarded."
I hope the guy who did this deal with me is reading this. I have never spoken with him again. I never called him and he never called me.Don Bible
