I simply do not have the economy to buy expensive things right now. I bought a car earlier this year and I have a girlfriend and have travelled a few times this year. The normal life takes money as well. I would not want to be without it. That is worth more to me than some black cloth.
If I am to buy something new I have to sell, or do a partial trade. On rare occassions I do have cash to buy something more expensive, but then usually there is nothing on the market that I want.
From what I have seen lately on the helmet side, there are a lot of generic items on the e-stand that are not very desirable, and when something good comes up, they seller wants way too much. There is too big of a gap between realistic prices and what people are asking for, for nice stuff. Ask realistic prices and I'd be inclined to buy your goods.
I see exactly the same dynamic with Luftwaffe paperwork items in the present collecting climate.
Quite how some of the inflated prices for some very basic EKII & EKI groups that are offered on the e-stand is beyond logic and completely unrealistic.
Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.
I buy when good opportunities arise, either a good price or a favorable trade. I rarely buy anything at shows, or look for any specific item that I just "have to" have.
When you collect almost everything, opportunities to "feed the habit" pop up all the time.
The reality is that original top-end items will always sell and sell out of view of the great unwashed with a single call.
The bottom of the market common items (e.g. Dachau insignia, rune tabs, sleeve eagles etc) will always sell at low prices to the bottom-feeders such as myself when I was collecting.
But it's the mid-range items that are struggling. Unrealistic dealer prices, items listed as for sale but not really needed to be moved on (you can buy my house for £300,000 ... I don't want to move but if someone is dumb enough to pay that I'll be out by the weekend ) and also these tend to be items which could be acquired quite often (e.g. M43 caps, common-or-garden EM tunics, anything which has been meddled with).

Everything I have bought lately has been for a price that would have been considered an incredible bargain a few years ago. Some items I have sold recently have gone for less than I paid when this stuff was worth more, I am OK with that as I enjoyed owning the items for some years. No doubt, prices are down.

Cest la vie!

Oh Felix - haven't you heard the old saying "if it flys, floats or f*cks - rent it"
Tony, have u seen the F1 GP in the Emirates last weekend?
When you saw the boats there your posted boat would be like a Fiat500.
Let's wait for the Kassel show. But it will be always the same.
Remember all the last years, bad called econnomie = much stuff will be offered.
Never experienced this so far.
