    SS Pea Dot Cap???

    Hello all,
I recently purchased this cap at a garage sale this past weekend and was excited to hear the story behind it, but was wandering your thoughts and age on the cap. The family was cleaning out man's whereabouts and came across this cap and I bought for what I thought was a good price. However, as I researched I noticed caps were rare I was offered 500.00 for it from a dealer at the Louisville show this weekend. I didn't know whether to sell or keep. After some further research I noticed most of these caps were reversible but this has no markings except for the skull on the camo side. Would this have had any other markings like the eagle and swastika or just left like it is? Most importantly do you all think it is a reall SS cap? Please let me know thoughts. Please send email as I cant send attachments as it is not allowing me to do so
    Thanks,
    Brent

pea dot caps are never made war time.

they were not authorized nor made on large scale and issued to the troops but Degrelle, for example, had a side cap made out of pea dot camo.

It's good advice to never buy the story, but have the item itself examined. The cap has to stand on its own regardless of any story "attached" to it.

                Pea Dot SS cap

What makes the cap repro and the skull real as I am way new at this.
                Thanks ,
                Brent

The reversible side is solid green with no emblems or markings and the cap is totally reversible which I think is unique. Look at old posts or I can email pictures.

The manufacture of the cap is wrong, the material is wrong, the pattern of the camo is wrong. Caps were reversible Spring/Autumn with the internal sweatband on the Autumn side.

The BeVo machine-woven skull is the standard 'found after the war by the roll' tropical skull which were made to be worn on the Waffen-SS version of what collectors call the 'M40' tropical cap and the sidecap made from the same tan material.

Special green and brown versions of both the cap eagle and skull were made and trialed on SS camouflage caps, they didn't catch on and because of this they are very rare and sought after, your's isn't.

                      Cheers, Ian.

Sorry Pieter, this picture shot in 1944 in Estonia show a tailor made sidecap with pea dot camo material.

Ian is absolutely right on all points... Cap is worthless, skull has value!

Btw here's another picture of Degrelle in Estonia wearing a stahlhelm, his DOT custom made side cap with officers silver piping,
                          now tucked in his belt!

I had one of these caps as well, old Bud O'toole fabric from early 80's.
