I need some help with this SS Edelweiss Insignia

I have been offered this Edelweiss badge that was told to me came from a SS Mountain Troops unit. I know nothing about identifying the authenticity of this badge and if you are even able to identify which unit it belonged to?

Any help you all can provide would be great. My initial research of this badge on the forum didnt help me much.

heer edelweiss.
ss only came in embroided form.
sometimes these were worn by the ss when
they could not procure the cloth version,
or even as a preference, or they transferred
from the heer to the ss.

What you show is a normal and original Heer version of the metal edelweiss. To prove it belonged to a SS trooper is nearly impossible unless you got that super duper rock solid provenance. Still it has to be documeted to increase the value above what a normal Heer metal edelweiss goes for. As said, the most often encountered SS cap edelweiss is the typical "Dachau" pattern. They are around and can be found for around a USD 100.
SS had a version of the metal edelweiss but then it was backed with black cloth. As seen in this cut off that I own.
