I used to own this cap and someone who had owned it years before me had tried to "clean" the black patina off the skull with metal polish! Worse than that, they'd gotten most of the polish onto the black trikot which then turned into a white stain all around and underneath where the skull sits!!

I took the skull off this cap myself to clean off the white mess left behind. You can still see traces of it though. It was impossible to remove it all.

So, don't worry too much about taking the skull off, it's been off before. There was no reason to take it off this time though was there??!
