SS Camouflage Winter Coat...taken by a US Army NCO from his SS prisoner "because it was cold and his jacket was better than mine"...Italian made with fur lining.

Yep for sure added US made military style zipper...for duck hunting convenience in post war years?
or period modified in 44-45 . Very well possible, considering it's a military style pull and OD tape used!
(reminds me of a G1 flight jacket zipper)

I can't ask the veteran any questions since he's been deceased for a long while (although I don't suppose it really matters how long)...He told the current owner that he wore it during the war, never mentioned using it later, but that's all I have except his name and unit.Comment

Kevin, He was in the 29th Division, but I don't know where he was when he got this coat...Zipper is talon and I am certain is period done, the owner said the veteran had a large collection of war souvenirs and shipped most home before he shipped home...I'll leave the zipper on the jacket as it is and leave it up to the next owner whether to remove it.
