The prong bar actually looks to be plated by the lifting of the finish, aluminum isn't plateable is it?
Also the first couple letters of maker mark being ground off?...WHY?
Is the thinner width at 44cm correct for the maker?Comment

It's not steel, it is much too long for the buckle, and it has been added to the piece as the original one is missing and someone put this incorrect prong bar in it's place.

Yes I agree it has been replaced, it's also magnetic. The shine of the picture must have made it look like aluminum.
Here are a couple others:
The one on the left I think is a 1970's English copy and the right is a `90's copy....maybe 90 minutes ago copy?
