      visor

Thanks for the congrats guys , I am going to post pics either later or tomorrow . the camo set sold for 5600.00 . I was told the police coat when for 1,200.00 $ I was lucky to purchase a few other items that i will post sunday when i am back in town . I did not see them but my buddy who was there in the morning told me there where plenty off ss tabs as well the vet who brought it all back contributed to liberating two death camps so who knows what else was there . the estate sales people did not post online the entire room full that was there .Nobody gave the visor a second look because they all thought it was a luft visor . I found the visor after the frenzy of the estate sale was over so i was VERY lucky today .

            ss

I would rather not disclose what i paid for the visor but it was a deal ! After thinking about it i realized that the family of the vet prefered that the items be sold local for some reason .

              John,

Ok, I understand your position. The reason I asked was this: I was in partners with someone on this stuff and the bids that were left was significantly higher than what it sold for. The bid left on the suit was 6,700.00 and the SS Generals visor's bid was 7,350.00, and the overcoat was 1,000.00, and we had no idea that there were SS officers tabs there. I cannot figure why the auctioneer woul dn't accept our bids or why the veteran wanted the stuff to stay local???? anyway, what is done is done. Congrats on the hat! It will be a nice piece once it is restored. regards, Grant

Grant, I also bid more than the winning bids. I hurts, but it happens. Nothing like being physically present, but it's great to see that John got a nice visor, and that we had an interesting look at some veteran bring-back but "doctored" pieces.

                Enjoy your new cap, John!

                  visor

I really do not know what was in the mind of the estate sales person .I also did not know that men were bidding as they were being sold I can tell you that he has absolutely no idea what these items were ,as a matter of fact he did tell me that had it not been for his buddy suggesting that they put it on the internet he would have sold the camo set for 20 or 50 bucks when members found it here it gave him a base to work off of to sell it locally . It is funny , i run my ads locally for nazi war items in local papers all the time and never had a single call for the items 5 min from my home . I am empathetic to the position of the members who attempted to negotiate the items . You just never know how a deal will go . Pics will follow tomorrow . Thanks for the thumbs up on the buy guys ,it is one of my best .

                      RobertE,

Yep, but I am glad that John got something right out of his back yard. There was an estate sale in my hometown about 6 years ago which there was a red SS fez and several Dacau collar tabs. I never knew the vet and had no idea the stuff was there until the day of the sale. You just never know...........

If the G.Is didnt brought back so much nice stuff, im afraid there would be less nice militaria left after WW2 ended.

Looking forward to more photos of the treasures.

I agree ! But it was 'only' an officer's one.

Congratulations John on the score of this rare Luftwaffen SS general's visor! Looking at the nice shape that it is in, I think all the worries about putting a visor on a headform and all the preservation techniques etc. are just a myth.
