Great...now we will see these do it yourself kits appearing all over for those restoring SS E.M. uniforms.

I'm only kidding...it is a great piece, very significant for any SS insignia display.

                Congratulations!

I have never seen a "sew ready" set up like this.
Has anyone else seen examples like this on other insignia?

I doubt that this is something "official". The soldiers usually had a sewing kit with sometimes more and sometimes less contents. No need to issue a needle and thread with an insignia.

Also, the eagle was the only insignia which had usually been applied at factory level.

However, spare insignia, incl. eagles, were of course stocked among units.

It's a nice eagle, but IMO the needle and thread were added to it, perhaps during the war and perhaps by the soldier who had been issued the eagle - who knows.

                      Cheers

                        Thanks for all replyes

Fritz: This is 100% factory made!

Many of the ss men here in Norway has told that this was how they were delivered to them

                        Best Regards

It may have been issued that way among "norwegian" units to be used with uniforms that were not of german origin. I do firmly believe it has not left the factory like that. Never have I seen anything like that issued in such a way to a german soldier, not ss not heer nor anything else.

With all the mint stuff that has emerged over the years, especially that sort of stuff that had to be sewn on by the owner (or a tailor), such as bullion eagles etc., I haven't seen such a setup.

But it could be worse, needle in or out, nice eagle and perhaps the way it was issued to norwegians.

                          Cheers
