Julleuchter - 1935 Model, factory Modification?

Here's a an excellent example of what I would think is a very early piece.

It has one feature that I have never seen in any I've owned before and that is the internal construction is different in respect that it has a small chamber formed at the top by a 'floor' under the candle well. It's there from when it was made, no doubt about that, same clay and fired.

Maybe one of the very early pieces, clearly a different design.

I liked the look of this one so much I sold my 6-dot, I only need one!

Would be fine to see it´s SS mark as well.

Definitely a very early and desirable piece!

Never came across one like that before as well.

            I agree, nice worn one!

Does it have the six dots as well according to the "theory" of early ones?

            Cheers

Not sure I would call that a theory, by observation the only differences with Allach in terms of production over the years is process of manufacture. The 6 dot appears to be the heartiest example of these and the earliest photo's show six dot pattern. Germania, etc. Once you get into later production they tend to be more consistent and and not as thick as the 6 dot. I cant say there is a better explanation for it and it not just the Juhlleuchter that shows these differences as its clear with 1936 era Allach porcelain as well. It grew.

              Best,

              Kris

                Hi Felix!
No domino dots. What theory? I thought the theory was just it was one of the workers personal marks, but not sure.

I wonder if that extra piece was not there to allow a candle to be used inside.

I am still looking for the post-war bronze copy to use.

                    Bob,

You could use a candle either way, I would think a shorter candle would settle the issue. I am not sure why this piece exhibits this feature and I have never seen it before, but if its a change in process than the whole candle holder needs to be examined for features. Could be early. I am thinking Steve can translate how they compare seeing that he is familiar with them.

                      Exactly my thoughts as well.

Would prevent the top of the piece from getting too hot from the candle being burnt in the bottom of it so that the Jul candle being put on top could not melt away.

                      Worth a practical test.

Why would they amend process of manufacture in such a way to fit a candle? the light up aspects of the holder are fairly low, you just use a shorter candle. I think the German's might have figured that out. These actually light up fairly well with one of those short tea candles with the aluminum cup, forget what their called.

Steve, How do the other 6 dot features apply?. I see the color but what about the walls and such?

Should have asked me that last week, has this (not 6-dot) and a 6-dot side by side! Exact size and form, well formed hand detailing. Weight similar, this one I could tell in the hand it was just noticeably heavier, but then it probably should be with the extra part in it which the 6-dot didn't have.

                            Tea-light?

                              Steve,

Well, if you want to call it early you would have wanted to examine it closer against a 6 dot and its features in my opinion. It may be early but we know the 6 dot is early for sure. The weight would be more of a key than say size. And yes, I used a tea light under one of these for photos one time, worked well. So the German's would have figured out real fast that they could use a shorter candle as not to burn the interior, I would guess they would have known before they made one. Its what the Germans do. ;o)
