I think most collectors who own SS garments are familiar with this type of material.

Next is a green one, same as the others shown: Italian scratchy wool, same cardboard as my "acceptable" Dachau type, well made. This one has a mottled type material as well, but is definately not the police type.Last edited by RobertE; 03-19-2012, 06:51 PM.

For what it's worth, (which ain't much), I have seen an original one of these caps with the printed trap. in a huge pile of vet bring backs, attic fresh if you will, back in the early 1970s. It sticks in my mind as it seemed at the time to be out of character with the other hand-embroidered German insignia he had in his trunk. I wish I had stayed in touch with his family. He was a friend of my Dad's and has since passed on."Activity! Activity! Speed! I greet you."

history
Yes, vet's grandson remembers his grandfather telling of picking it up in a warehouse in a concentration camp, along with other ss items. This was all he got of the items along with a luger holster, fxo clip and luger tool his grandfather captured. He didn't remember grandfather's unit but is going to try and find out for me. Will keep advised.

good to see you posting again on this one. I know you have hands-on experience of these caps. It would be good to get your thoughts/ findings in regard to the "olive green-brown-grey bias material" found in these M43 caps which is now being discussed on this thread;
http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=796965
Given that such caps seem to be found regularly from veteran brought back sources, it throws a whole new light on the prejudice against this type of bias material and the rejection by some collectors of M43 caps with this as part of the construction of the cap.
Many thanks and best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I do not think the discovery of more of these caps from veteran sources has influenced the entrenched anti-printed trap crowd.
Despite direct observations of these being recovered directly from veteran groups from the 1950's through present, and more recently from veteran family members, these caps are not being accepted as original.
The brown bias tape remains the kiss of death. I have posted pictures of other M43s that have been reviewed and approved that have brown and greyish bias tape, but no acknowledgment that these colors are acceptable in the M43's with printed traps. Honestly, I don't really need it.
It took us 70 years to find two photos of the SS printed sleeve eagles in wear and find one actual uniform still sporting one, and I'd expect that it will take a picture for the disbelievers to believe.
Thanks for weighing in - again!
s/f Robert
