Very, very nice example of a very rare tinnie. I'm grateful to have mine after a long time searching, it's one of my favorites.

BTW I was told that Himmler did not approve of tinnies as he saw them as "kitsch". Has anyone else heard of anything like that?

Very nice CupAl tinnie. I've heard that this is the rarest tinnie from the Third Reich. I've only seen two or three for sale over the past ten years. They went for around $1,000.00 each. I bought one from Don Boyle several years ago and it came with an ultra rare, (possibly the only one known), Quedlinburg silver souvenir spoon, as well as a nice copy of the booklet and a period Quedlinburg post card. I don't know much about the spoon, other than it is certainly very rare and shows some of the best details of anything that I have ever seen in my life.
I have talked with every souvenir spoon expert that I could find,
and they cannot offer any info at all, except for the fact that it is European
and that it would have been made sometime between the late 1800's and
1945. I don't if the spoon was made during the Third Reich or not, but the source that it came from in Germany was a good friend to Don Boyle and he said that it was found in a house that belonged to a high ranking SS officer and that there were several Himmler and Hitler signed documents and signed birthday cards, etc, in the same house that it was found. So, it was for sure, used during the Third Reich and could have been manufactured during that time as well. I guess I'll never know for sure, but it is a very neat piece, IMO.

SS Quedlinburg Badge

I am lucky enough to have one of these badges in my collection. Also I have a copy of this badge which has been made in solid silver as a pendant and was produced by the late Berthold Peichl of Totenkopfring fame. He only produced a few of these and did not include it in his catalogue so in terms of numbers, it is probably rarer than the original badge itself.

I too, have the silver variation. They are certainly fake, as is most silver SS items that should only be made of something else like CupAl or aluminum.
Unless it is a real TK ring, I have decided that collectors should be very careful with anything that is made of silver because it really wasn't used very often in the manufacture of SS items, (although there were a few and those mostly made by the Gahr firm).
