A nice little surprise walked into the show with a mix of other items. It's the first SS greatcoat armband that I have had. I don't think that I would be able to upgrade this one. The condition is astounding!

Armband
A political armband with an tag from a manufacturer that made SS armbands. I have never seen 1 period photo of this standardized style armband made in the late 1930's on an SS greatcoat. I am unsure how these ever got a designation as an ss greatcoat armband. Seems like it was pulled out of the sky sometime in 1970's and stuck since then. Very nice armband however.

Wow! Wittmann has a bunch listed some with cloth and some with paper tags.

I started that thread 7 years ago that Mr. Wood linked to asking to see a period photo of one of these in wear. Still haven't seen one. I've owned 2 or 3of these black border-less armbands and I still am not sure. Certainly the same quality of authentic bordered examples. Period quality and construction. But it doesn't take much to add a label.

I will have to look to see if he added any more SS labels to the other items in the box that he sold me!
Just kidding!
That spunky old soldier would have hit me if I told him that he added the label.
I have every confidence that the label is original to the armband.

They aren't without controversy that's for sure. I rifled through my 1937 edition organisationsbuch just now and it's not in that anyway. I've seen armbands in wear on greatcoats but they all have the traditional back stripes.
As they are RZM, has anyone thought of going trough issues of Uniformen-Markt looking for them?Last edited by Minnesinger; 02-21-2012, 12:28 AM.
