I realize I'm not with the "in crowd" here..but (Craig's auction prices realized)

I had expected to see talk on the results of Craig's recent SS insignia auction. Bob Hritz posted somewhere that the prices realized would tell us a lot of the state of the hobby (or something to that effect). Did I miss these discussions? If I didn't, and no one has mentioned it, any opinions?

A healthy market as I see it, the D tap went high up nd more I expected.
The i tab in the range I expected. Not much to mention about it for my view.

I was genuinely surprised to see that the relatively common gray Handschar fez went for $ 2,700. Either someone was not up to date with the current market prices or Craig did a great job with his advertising, or probably both......In any case, at least inasmuch as the last CGM Auction results show, there does not seem to be much cause for the "doom and gloom" scenarios when it comes to WWII and TR militaria collecting.

There were a few bargains to be had, but it appears there is still a healthy market for the better items. I know I was outbid on all but one lot. The auction seems to be a very good venue for both buyers and sellers and went off without a hitch. I think the no buyer premium helps to make it easier for bidders.

I just wish there was one every month!

I don´t know if Craig listed any cultural pieces but in some areas of TR and SS collecting the demand is growing fast.

Especially art and cultural items like Allach as only one example reach higher prices than ever before in recent auctions in the web.

Just this past afternoon a coloured bear with ball (Allach Nr. 9) fetched 3761 Euros!!

For the little colored bear with ball, that is a very high price.

Yet I guess if you want it bad enough you'll pay the price. I only paid about 450 euros for the one in my collection.

The ball was colored in gold - a feature which I have rarely seen, I guess that explains the price.

Still exorbitant - also a colored rider for more than 16.000 Euros offered from Denmark was gone from the platform after two days.

Are you guys kidding Craig was selling fakes in this auction. I thought he was one of the top experts in the feild. Its hard to believe he let one threw or maybee not a accident at all. I watched him last yr at the SOS but a hard sale on a guy he thought could afford that Hitler desk he had. But if he's selling out rite fakes and knows it that's BS. When you get that low to scaming people and your suppost to be a trusted dealer in the hobby we have problems. I really hope that's not the case here but it wouldn't surprise me.

I wouldnt go as far to say that he was knowingly scamming anyone... Although the person(s) he has approving all the items for the auction may need to review their role as a vetting expert, either that or get stronger glasses.

Given that there was a very long lead-in time to the auction I would have thought that he would have sought numerous opinions.

Yes it's true, if it weren't true trust me I wouldn't have said it.

Several items were spotted on the various forums here (a cloth cap eagle, an officer's belt, a helmet decal and a piece of early Himmler memorabilia) and were either pulled or the description was amended to reflect doubt. I didn't notice that particular eagle but then again I only checked out the cloth insignia.

Being a large dealer does not make one an expert in the field. I think everyone makes a mistake now and then, knowingly selling a reproduction as real is something else.
