    When is Allach not Allach?

    When it's Sauermann.

This little dachshund puppy was model no. 2 in the SS-Allach inventory, modelled by Professor Theodor Kaerner. So how can it be postwar??

Well, many of the Allach moulds survived, and were bought by other local porcelain firms. The stuff is apparently still being produced. This little dachshund was made by the Sauermann firm from the original Allach mould - here's their maker's mark on the base of the pup. Just visible beside it is the impressed name of the artist, Kaerner, from the Allach mould.

So it wouldn't be too difficult to make these today with fake 'SS-Allach' marks, would it??

The Sauermann pup sells for about 100 Euros. The Allach original would be over 10 times that amount.

And, while we're at it, here's a fake Julleuchter - currently being sold as a copy on German ebay. It looks pretty good to me.

        Fake Allach

Hi Robin, is the finish the same, however, on the Sauermann No 2 pup as on the Allach.
I just picked up a very clean copy of "SS Porcelain Allach", by Tony L. Oliver. I'll make you laugh, the inside cover says 2.50 Pounds, needless to say I paid a great deal more, especially in US dollars. Sonny

          Hi Robin,

About the Julleuchter, why would you say, just looking to this only picture, this is a copy??

          Best regards,

          Rene

            Robin,

Whenever going thru an antique shop or show, I always look for allach, I have found a couple pieces, including a sitting white dachshund. Quite a few false alarms on this model as well - all of the ones I have seen were colored, and made by Rosenthal. I haven’t been able to compare the topsides closely, but the finish on the bases is different - both the Karner signature and the outer rim are formed better on the Allach pieces.

            Regards,

            Fred

Yes - the finish is much the same.

They were also produced in classic pure white - which the Germans (and I) prefer.

It's advertised for sale as a fake.

                  Fred.
I also have that pup - identical to yours in white.
It's the first piece of Allach I ever bought - and I still think it's the best.
                  Quality is superb.
